About Me
Hello, I'm Clara, and this is my story.
As a young child, I had a very limited palate, consisting of about three things. These were pasta, bread, and cupcakes. As I grew up around the world, I was an insufferably picky eater, from Italy to Colorado, Washington DC to Hawaii, always sticking to my trifecta diet. However, when I was thirteen years old in 2017, I experienced a catalyst.
Moving to Zambia was the best thing which happened to me, forcing my eyes and mouth open to new experiences and opportunities. During the first few months, my relationship with food was difficult to say the least. Over time, I discovered how wonderful it is to cook. Now, being in the kitchen relaxes me, and I enjoy adapting recipes to my own taste and cooking for my family and friends. I have a much more diverse palate now, and wish to share my cooking with others who will try it.
Along with my passion for food, I belong to Generation Z, love mycelium, and consider myself a young environmental activist. As far back as I can remember, I have been interacting with the natural world during my travels, whether that be through hiking, sledding, or exploring. I have seen what many my age have not.
As a third culture individual, I've had an abundance of opportunities to see the world. I've travelled to different continents, countries, and seen wildlife in countless environments and biomes. Gorgeous Monarch butterflies flitting around, Wild Dogs trotting through brush, Weaver Birds courting, Hippos floating in their pods together. However, I've witnessed to environmental harm and global warming. A single family of cheetahs fighting to survive on a plateau, orphaned elephants, mistreated chimpanzees, deforestation happening before my eyes. I love the natural world, I love food, and opportunity struck to combine them.
I wish to create change, through the kitchen.

About Gen Z Eats
As a generation Z, I have always felt the pressure of supposedly being the ones to compensate for pervious generations' mistakes, and I have found a way to channel this into a productive platform. In the tenth grade at my school, the American International School of Lusaka (AISL), we undergo a year long process called "Personal Project," where we can choose any imaginable topic, and turn that passion into a project that can benefit ourselves, our community, or the world.
I chose to try and create an impact through original and sustainable recipes for my generation, creating an opportunity for Gen Z to begin generating habits for young people in the kitchen which can benefit the world and improve our environmental footprint through reducing food waste and using ingredients effectively. I have conducted extensive research that allows me to choose ingredients which will benefit the environment and streamline resource usage.
Food is a way that we can make a positive impact, and I want to use this medium to my advantage, and yours.
Below are the guidelines I use to create my recipes, because sustainability can mean different things to different people. I've chosen to include them because it's important to show you on what basis my recipes are sustainable, and, for you to understand part of my goal, as well as gaining a deeper understanding of what my project is about.

sustainability in the kitchen should look like for my recipes.
